Why did you choose to do a residency & what are you hopeful will happen through this process?
We see a significant decrease of those going into full-time ministry and we’re committed to develop the next generation of men and women for Kingdom Impact. Our hope is to help develop and sharpen the relational, spiritual, and emotional tools needed to be effective in whatever field God is calling them to serve.

What are your greatest hopes and dreams for the next couple of years for your church?
We want to help people look, live, and love like Jesus. We want lives to be redeemed by Jesus, for relationships with God to be restored into an ongoing and growing walk with Him, and for a renewed purpose in every individual for community and kingdom impact.

We want to grow in our ability to disciple all ages with environments including, but not limited to, worship, small groups, local outreach, personal evangelism, and serving opportunities both inside and outside our campus.

What is it like to work on staff there?
We work hard to create moments of learning, laughing, encouraging, and challenging each other in every aspect of our lives.

The following Q and A is with Tim and Jenn from their team.

What are your greatest hopes and dreams for the next couple of years for your church?
Our church is in a season of strong growth.  After being portable for 15 years, we moved into our first permanent facility in December 2021 and we are excited to see all that God is doing in our community and through our church.  Over the next couple years, I expect us to continue to connect people to Christ and help them take steps in their faith.  Our kids and student ministry will continue to be a strong connection point for families and our practical teaching from the Bible will help adults grow closer to God in their everyday life.  Our online presence will continue to expand to help people around the globe experience Jesus.

Why did you choose to do a residency & what do you hope will happen through this process?
We believe that working in a thriving, local church is the greatest way to impact eternity.  So, we want to help people who are called into vocational ministry develop to be highly effective leaders and communicators of the gospel.  We hope that the residents that come through SouthPoint are challenged, learn, ask questions, grow and make an impact.

What is it like to work on staff there?
Working at SouthPoint is really incredible and really hard.  Anytime you want to be part of something of significance, it also takes sacrifice.  SouthPoint Church is making an impact on our community and in eternity.  We work hard and strive for excellence; We build and lead teams; and we don’t take no for an answer.

SouthPoint Church is led by Matt Hall, our Lead Pastor.  He planted SouthPoint in 2005 and has been the Lead Pastor for the entire time.  Our executive leadership team consists of Tim Wiesemann (Executive Pastor), Jenn Curtis (Family Ministry Pastor), and Kyle Squire (Campus Pastor).  We have all been on staff at SouthPoint for at least 10 years.  We each oversee multiple full-time and part-time staff that run sections of the ministry.  There are currently 12 people on staff at SouthPoint Church.

What qualities does it take to “win” on staff at your church?
SouthPoint staff is fun and adventurous. You must be able to carry your own weight, be a self-starter, not be afraid to take risks, and not take yourself too seriously.

Who will the resident report to?  Will there be a different person acting as coach?
Production Resident will report to Tim Wiesemann

Student Ministry Resident will report to Jenn Curtis

Are there particular assessment tools that you prefer when exploring potential staff people?
Historically we have used the Leading From Your Strengths assessment as part of the interview process.  We are also using Enneagram more recently in interviews.

Are you affiliated with a particular denomination or tribes/association of churches? If so, what websites could one investigate to gain further understanding?
No.

What are the key doctrinal and theological issues where alignment is essential?
SouthPoint tends to be conservative in our theology but broad-minded in our methodology.  You can find our theological stance on many topics on our website.

www.southpoint4u.com/beliefs

What is your average weekend attendance?
1,100

In general, what is your church demographic?
Our church, like our community, is largely made up of families with young kids.  There is a large base located here, so most of our community is currently in the military or working to support the military.  Other than that, it is a fairly rural, waterfront community.

Is there more than one site or venue? If so, please describe.
We are one site.  In December 2021 we moved into our newly constructed 22,000 sq ft building.

How many conversions has your church had in the past 12 months? (however you define this and whatever you count)
Baptisms are probably the most definitive way to count this at SouthPoint and in the past year we have had 150 baptisms.

What percentage of people are involved in a small group?
SouthPoint has about 50 active small groups with 600 people involved.

What is your church known for in the community?
SouthPoint Church is known as a place where anyone is welcome.

How much are you planning on financially compensating your resident?  Is it set or is it flexible?
We are planning on $800 per month per resident plus housing the resident in a host home.

What are the expected work hours and what does a typical workweek look like for this resident?
Most staff are off on Monday and Saturday.  Some “office” hours are required for administrative tasks but we also encourage our staff to be meeting with, recruiting, and developing their volunteer teams.  Many evenings can be filled with meetings, events, and ministry, so daytime hours have some flexibility accordingly.

Riverside Church

Riverside Church is a church of 1000 in Fort Myers, FL. They are two opportunities for learning at Riverside: one in kids ministry & one in student ministry.

Expected Work Hours: 20-30

Expected Monthly Pay: Up to $1,000 reimbursed expenses per month.

What are your greatest hopes and dreams for the next couple of years for your church? We are looking at planting churches//campuses in the next 3-5 years. Residency is huge piece of this for us, but we are also re-working our group model to be more neighborhood based and focused. We have been blessed with 36 acres and are dreaming about how to steward that for the community. We dream of having more people on our campus Monday thru Saturday than come on a Sunday. We believe things like sports, splash pad water parks, playgrounds, disc golf course, coffee shop etc. will draw people to our property who would never walk through the doors of our church. This is where our vision comes into play. We want to place Intentional Disciple-Makers into relational spaces (like some I mentioned above) to build relationship and earn the right to share the gospel.

Why did you choose to do a residency & what are you hopeful will happen through this process? We have a huge heart for developing young leaders. We want to put our money where our mouth is and build up a bench of young leaders who are being equipped for ministry and immersed in our culture. We will then hire some as we have need and send out the rest with great recommendations.

Why did you choose to do a residency & what are you hopeful will happen through this process? We are using residency as a pipeline to develop the next generation of young ministry leaders within our church.

What is it like to work on staff there? Our staff is highly relational. We work hard and play hard. We love to laugh with each other and interact often each day as we have offices that force us to be close physically and collaborate. We see this as a huge advantage and don’t want to lose the closeness and collaboration. We are far more concerned with our team being and making disciples than what they produce in their ministry role. At the same time, we want to steward our roles and the flock well. We have a flexible work schedule based on ministry needs and operate under a high trust culture.

Does your church’s website state the mission, vision, values and key distinctives of your church? Please paste the link: https://www.riversidechurch.org/missionvisionvalues

Please describe the current staff structure. We have our Lead Pastor and Executive Pastor who make up our Executive Team. They work closely with the Elders and lead all things staff and vision. The next layer of leadership is our Lead Team (Ops Director, Next Gen Director, Spiritual Formations Pastor, Executive Team). This team leads our staff week to week and works at the 30,000ft level as we plan out strategy for the next 3-5 years. The rest of our staff report to someone on the Lead Team and tackle the day-to-day ministry and have most direct contact with the body.

What qualities does it take to “win” on staff at your church?  Hungry, Humble, Smart. (Taken from Patrick Lencioni’s “Ideal Team Player”

  • Hungry – Someone who brings solutions and not just problems. Someone who has a desire to grow as a leader and does things with excellence. Someone always looking to make things better and is assessing what they are doing to ensure it is working.

  • Humble – Someone who initiates inviting feedback and knows feedback is a gift. Someone who knows it is not about them. We are here to serve, not build a platform.

  • Smart – This is EQ, not IQ. Someone who understands people and enjoys relationship. This means someone that is willing to have hard conversations and not have the meeting after the meeting. Someone who shepherds and leads people well personally and within their ministry

Who will the resident report to?  Will there be a different person acting as coach? The Student Resident will report to our Student Pastor. The Kids Resident will report to our Next Gen Director.

Are there particular assessment tools that you prefer when exploring potential staff people? Team Sight has been a common language for us.

Are you affiliated with a particular denomination or tribes/association of churches? If so, what websites could one investigate to gain further understanding? No.

What are the key doctrinal and theological issues where alignment is essential? Eternal Security would be a big one for us. The gospel being far bigger than a prayer.

What is your average weekend attendance? 1,100

In general, what is your church demographic? We have a decent mix of ages, but lean a tad older as we are in retirement heaven! Our diversity is growing in a really cool way recently which has been an answer to prayer.

Is there more than one site or venue? If so, please describe. No.

How many conversions has your church had in the past 12 months? (however you define this and whatever you count) This past year we had 30 baptisms.

What percentage of people are involved in a small group? 60% of people are involved in a small group.

What is your church known for in the community? Our church is known as highly relational and recently our local outreach efforts have been getting a lot of notice in the community.

How much are you planning on financially compensating your resident?  Is it set or is it flexible?
We are planning to reimburse up to $1,000/month. We will also have host homes to take care of lodging costs.

What are the expected work hours and what does a typical workweek look like for this resident? 25-30 hours. This can look different depending on the ministry area. For example, Students meet on Wednesday nights, so that would be an anchor night to work. Our full time staff work from 9-4 in the office Monday thru Thursday.

What else would you say to a resident considering joining your team? We are so excited to come alongside you in your journey towards full time ministry! The reason I [Matt Nations, Executive Pastor] am in ministry is because someone gave me a shot when I was young and took a chance on me. They believed in me and genuinely cared more about me than what I could produce for them or the church. I didn’t realize it then, but I know now what a gift that was for me. Based on that experience, I want to provide that same thing for as many young leaders as I can. We would consider it an honor to pour into young leaders and cheer them on as they learn and grow.

What are your greatest hopes and dreams for the next couple of years for your church? We are looking to expand our influence even further, restructuring to accommodate the number of growing campuses, and grow the kingdom by reaching those far from Christ.

Why did you choose to do a residency & what are you hopeful will happen through this process?
We are using residency as a pipeline to develop the next generation of young ministry leaders within our church.

What is it like to work on staff there? We work hard, and we play hard. We often say we are going to work as if it depends on us, and pray as if it depends on God. We value excellence - the details matter to God, so they matter to us as well. We also value fun - it’s not just what we do, it’s who we are. We are very much a family, and ministry is our lifestyle. This is not just a job.

Does your church’s website state the mission, vision, values and key distinctives of your church? Please paste the link: https://www.watersedgechurch.net/about

Please describe the current staff structure. Our current staff structure is led by our Lead Pastor, Stu Hodges. He leads a team of Executive

Directors and Campus Pastors. Our Executive Directors oversee ministry directors, and our ministry directors oversee our managers. Campus Pastors oversee our Pastoral Care Coordinators.

Our Executive team drives the strategy for the organization as a whole. Our Ministry Directors drive the strategy and development for their ministry. Managers are the ones growing and developing volunteer teams and making the behind the scenes details happen. Our Campus Pastors focus on individual campuses, and the care of our attendees and members.

What qualities does it take to “win” on staff at your church? Trust, resilience and driving vision and purpose are three core competencies we expect from every team member. Our most successful employees, communicate effectively, work hard, and ask questions. They are owners of their actions and decisions. They have teachable hearts.

Who will the resident report to? Will there be a different person acting as coach? What do you know about their personalities (enneagram, DiSC, Strength Finders, etc.) Have you given thought as to what type of personality will work best with them? The resident will report to the director of their ministry. We have a variety of personalities on staff right now, particularly at the manager level. We really value the temperaments because they help us to practically communicate effectively with a variety of people.

Are there particular assessment tools that you prefer when exploring potential staff people? We value Temperaments (I said this, you heard that study), Enneagram, Meyers Briggs, and Core Competencies.

Are you affiliated with a particular denomination or tribes/association of churches? If so, what websites could one investigate to gain further understanding? We are affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention (SBCVA), but mirror a non denominational church. https://www.sbc.net/

We are also an ARC church. https://www.arcchurches.com/

What are the key doctrinal and theological issues where alignment is essential? We believe that there is one God that created the universe and everything in it. We believe that Jesus is His son and that He is the only way to get to God. We believe that every word of the Bible is His word and that it is true. We believe that if you ask God to forgive you and that you have a relationship with Him, you go to Heaven - not because you can do anything to deserve it, but because Jesus died on the cross to make you right with God. We are a church for outsiders - for those far from Christ.

What is your average weekend attendance? So far our 2023 average in-person (on-campus) weekly attendance is: 1,325. Our average total weekly attendance (including our Online and God Behind Bars campuses) is: 217,558

In general, what is your church demographic? Because we are one church in multiple locations, our demographics vary location to location.

Our Yorktown campus is quite diverse in age. We have many students and young families, but also many retirees. This is the location of our broadcast campus.

Our Newport News campus is much more ethnically and socially diverse. This campus is known to be rowdy and steadfast.

Our Williamsburg, campus is the smallest. In general we tend to be similar to Yorktown, with a diversity of ages. This campus is resilient, as we still operate as a portable campus after many years, having moved service times and locations on occasion.

Online, we are reaching and connecting with an extremely diverse group of people, with regular attendees from around the world. We are constantly seeking new ways to connect with these individuals, and we even recently translated our Growth Track into a new language so that more people could participate in it!

Is there more than one site or venue? If so, please describe. We are one church in multiple locations. We currently have 3 in-person campuses, each with their own Campus Pastor and worship team. We believe in the power of video teaching, and our satellite campuses (Newport News and Williamsburg) receive a broadcast message from our Yorktown Campus, where our Lead Pastor preaches live.

In addition, we also have 1 God Behind Bars campus (Indian Creek Correctional Center), led by our Outreach Director, and an Online Campus, led by our Online Manager.

How many conversions has your church had in the past 12 months? (however you define this and whatever you count) 267 people have let us know that they are committing their life to Jesus by filling out a form and screwing a light bulb into our “CHANGED” wall (www.watersedgechurch.net/changed). In addition, 165 people have been baptized in the last 12 months.

What percentage of people are involved in a small group? 54%. We highly value Groups as a church. It’s one of our 6 core values. Regular participation in Groups is mandatory for staff.

What is your church known for in the community? When Waters Edge Church shows up to do something, we show up big and we get it done. We are generous. We have a yearly Care Week where we go into the community to provide support - whether it’s packing meals or painting a school. We also regularly donate to several strategic partnerships within our local community, and across the world.

How much are you planning on financially compensating your resident? Is it set or is it flexible? We have planned to spend $1,000/month for our resident’s first year, with a pay increase in year two.

What are the expected work hours and what does a typical workweek look like for this resident? This will depend on the ministry, but it’s likely the resident will have flexibility to choose their own set schedule within given parameters. Sundays will be mandatory, as will certain meetings and events.

What are your greatest hopes and dreams for the next couple of years for your church? As a family of neighborhood churches, we strive and hope for our church families and their neighbors to experience Grace, grow in faith and make and impact.

Why did you choose to do a residency & what are you hopeful will happen through this process?

As part of our mission to equip, we believe it’s our responsibility to mentor future Christian leaders to successfully lead in ministry either here at Chapelstreet or elsewhere in God’s Kingdom. Part of the neighborhood church vision is to multiply our ministry and outreach to the neighborhoods God calls us to reach.

What is it like to work on staff there?

If princess bride is your favorite movie, you’ll succeed here… The Chapelstreet staff is composed of hard-working people dedicated to their calling and mission.

We value…

1. One Team – We believe we’re at our best when we pull together.

2. Trust the Net – Innovate. Attentiveness to God’s direction and being willing to try new things. “This is the way we’ve always done it” is not always the best option.

3. Build Your Bench – Equipping others is the best way to grow the church. Developing others is key to healthy ministry. We are stewards of ministry, not owners.

4. Cover all the Bases – To be unclear is to be unkind. We try to give and receive feedback regularly, because we believe it’s the best way to grow.

5. Go to the Park – Sacrificing your family or well-being on the throne of ministry will not work here. Your physical, emotional and spiritual health is key to healthy ministry.

Here are some Q & A with Ron Leach GM of Operations and Development:

What are your greatest hopes and dreams for the next couple of years for your organization?
That we continue to serve churches well, see the Kingdom advance, and help as many churches as possible.

Does your organization’s website state the mission, vision, values and key distinctives of your organization?Yes, I’d recommend going here to read about our heartbeat and what makes this place special.

How many full-time employees do you currently have?
Currently around 40, but we are always growing. Plus we have a handful of Part Timers and lots of subcontractors as well. Many live in Lexington (where the residency is located) and the rest are spread out nationwide.

Please describe the current staff structure.
We run a pretty lean and effective team that consists of our Founder, two General Managers and a management team of 5 people providing leadership for the individual teams.

What qualities does it take to “win” on staff at your organization?

There are a lot of unique skills and personalities on our team, but there are a few commonalities that are pervasive throughout the organization:

We have a personal drive to help churches and set them up for success.  Almost all of our team comes from an extensive background in church, so it’s not just something we do, it’s what drives us.

We “run to the smoke”.  When our team members need help, we will jump in to help them.

We are by nature proactive, listeners, learners, hard workers…

Who will the resident report to?  Will there be a different person acting as coach?
It depends on where the resident is embedded in either the design team, church relations team, marketing, or integration/projects. There typically is a different coach than just the supervisor to ensure the resident has a well-rounded experience.

Are there particular assessment tools that you prefer when exploring potential staff people?
We tend to use Thinking Wavelengths, Enneagram & DISC when getting to know a new candidate.

How long has senior leadership been serving in your organization?
Our founder started HouseRight in 2013, I have been with them since early 2019 and Luke joined us in mid-2020.

What are the key values where alignment is critical?

Our core values:

·      Flexibility

·      Integrity

·      Commitment

·      Respect

·      Care

·      Humility

In general, what is your organization's demographic?
Introverts. Jk. Seriously though, we have a bunch of engineer-types, with a few extroverted types sprinkled in.

Where do you work?
We work all over the continental US. You’ll get the opportunity to travel a lot and see different places you might not get the chance to otherwise.

Is your organization growing?
We serve more and more churches every year and continue to ad new people to our team to meet the demand.

What is your organization known for in the community?
A team that truly helps churches. Honest. Dependable. We take the approach “if this were my church…”

How much are you planning on financially compensating your resident?  Is it set or is it flexible?
A base salary plus housing is provided, and all road expenses are covered as well.

What are the expected work hours and what does a typical workweek look like for this resident?
We work hard and play hard. Traveling about 70% of the time is normal in this role. (You’ll love those Delta Airlines rewards points)

What are three
single-word-adjectives that describe what it’s like to work on your organization staff
Dedicated
Missional
Fun

What are your greatest hopes & goals for a future resident?
We want you to leave a great set of skills that makes you a better leader than you came here (if you leave at all) and sets you on a successful and meaningful career path. We also hope you get a sense for the need in the local church for great leaders who have a heart for ministry, are technically proficient, and are excellent at their craft.

LifePoint Church is located just miles from Lake Tahoe in Minden, NV. There are multiple opportunities here in either worship, students, or kids ministry.

Expected Work Hours: 40 hours per week

Expected Monthly Pay: 1,000 per month + housing

What are your greatest hopes and dreams for the next couple of years for your church?
We love hearing some version of this as we talk with people in and around our valley:

“LifePoint is my church, these are my people, and LifePoint has influenced my story.”

People may use different language, but if you asked just about anyone on our staff, they would say some version of this. We love playing a small part in the greater work that God is doing in and through people. These stories are what keep us going, what we celebrate, and how we know if we’re influencing people for God’s Kingdom.

Our hope is to be a part of, inspire, and celebrate as many people’s stories of life-transformation as possible in our valley and beyond.

Why did you choose to do a residency & what are you hopeful will happen through this process?

Recently our staff went through an extensive coaching and development process where we discovered we were all passionate about four key areas — one of them being the desire to develop people.  A residency at LifePoint is a tangible way of putting to action this desire to identify and develop the next Leaders for our church and beyond.

Our hope when developing people is to inspire them to love our people, our area, and our mission so they’ll want to stay and be a part of the great things God is doing through our church.

What is it like to work on staff there?
LifePoint is a great place to learn, fail, have fun, be challenged, and lead people. We have a culture that honors effort, values results, and is passionate about seeing people taking their next step in faith as they follow Christ.

We frequently check-in with each other as we “care about you, before we care about what you do.” We try to balance an “excellence” and “make it better” philosophy with intentional care and connection as we do ministry together.

Does your church’s website state the mission, vision, values, and key distinctions of your church? Please paste the link:
https://lifepointnv.com/about/

Please describe the current staff structure.

LifePoint is a church that is led by two Co-Lead Pastors with the support of and accountability to our Board of Directors and Board of Elders. We also have a Pastoral team that functions as our Executive team; a team of Directors who are the leaders of staff and volunteer leaders; and finally Coordinators who accomplish many of the day to day tasks and projects needed for ministry.

What qualities does it take to “win” on staff at your church?
We first try to win with each other.  We believe a healthy staff culture is pivotal to successful and meaningful ministry, so were intentional about making our culture and our teamwork better.  Secondly, we measure wins by people taking their next step, rather than how many people come to events, to church, or to our trainings. Your wins are determined by what you celebrate, and we celebrate next steps of faith!

Who will the resident report to? Will there be a different person acting as a coach?
The LifePoint Kids resident will report to the LifePoint Kids Pastor primarily, and will be coached along and supported additionally by the other Pastors on staff, including the Lead Pastors.

The LifePoint Students or Worship will be coached along by their respective leader, either the Pastor of Spiritual Formation, or the Pastor of Community.

Are there particular assessment tools that you prefer when exploring potential staff people?
We use Strengthsfinder, Myers-Briggs, a spiritual gifts assessment, Enneagram, and DISC to get a picture of who people are. We accompany these with conversation and hearing people’s stories.

Are you affiliated with a particular denomination or tribes/association of churches? If so, what websites could one investigate to gain further understanding? LifePoint is a non-denominational church without any outside denominational influence.

What are the key doctrinal and theological issues where alignment is essential?

We are a gospel-centered church, which means we know and grow in our knowledge of what the Gospel is: God created, God commanded, we rebelled, God rescued, we respond.

We have, support, encourage and hire women for leadership positions at our church, including pastoral and teaching positions. We believe women can and should hold positions of influence and leadership.

We believe in the gifts, empowerment and movement of the Holy Spirit in the lives of leaders and that we honor Him when we plan well, work hard, and use the gifts He has given us for His glory.

We believe in both reaching the lost and equipping the saints.

What is your average weekend attendance?
About 400-600 in person, with about another 100-300 online.

In general, what is your church demographic?
Like most churches we have a mix of life stages, age, interests, and religious backgrounds.

We have a good amount of people who come from a catholic (about 25%) or irreligious background (our area is 95% unchurched), as well as people who have come from churches in other states as they’ve moved here.

Many people move into the area after retirement, or for the outdoors lifestyle. We have a large amount of retirees, business owners, and healthcare and educational workers.

In terms of age, our church has continued to get increasingly younger, but we primarily have a mix of families and retirees.  About 20-25% of our weekend attendance are children and students.

Is there more than one site or venue? If so, please describe.
We do not currently have an additional physical site, but we do have church online and treat it like it’s own “campus.” Someday we’d like to plant a campus!

How many conversions has your church had in the past 12 months? (however you define this and whatever you count)
We would probably put salvations and baptisms together for this, as we’re looking to help people commit their lives in addition to the moment they give their lives Christ. But both are good!

Over the last 12 months, we’ve baptized about 35 people, and about 15 people we know of give their life to Christ.

Since we only do Baptisms a few times a year, over the last 18 months we’ve baptized about 123 people, and have had over 30 people give their life to Christ.

What percentage of people are involved in a small group?
Somewhere between 30-40% not counting women and men’s specific groups.  With them, it’s about 60% or so.

How much are you planning on financially compensating your resident? Is it set or is it flexible?
We’ve budgeted to compensate each resident at a rate of $1,000 a month.  Currently we don’t have plans to increase this, though we would definitely consider during their review after a year.

What is your church known for in the community?
We’ve heard that we’re known as a church with: A great kids ministry, a heart for serving the community, good teaching, and doing things with excellence.

What are the expected work hours and what does a typical workweek look like for this resident?

Work and development hours are expected to be about 40 hours a week.  Much of this will be hands on ministry experience, with about 1/4 of the time dedicated to their personal development.

A typical work week (depending on the ministry) is usually spent preparing, planning, and performing for how that ministry contributes to the greater mission and vision of LifePoint.

We “prepare” by: meeting regularly to improve our interpersonal relationships; having discussion about ideas; evaluating what we’re doing and why; and seeing how we can adjust.

We “plan” by: using our current strategies or coming up with new ones; communicating well with staff and volunteers; looking as far ahead as we can; and coming up with big projects and small tasks to help move us forward.

We “perform” by going and doing what we’ve prepared and planned for!

What else would you say to a resident considering joining your team?

We’re looking to learn from you too!  Our ways aren’t the best ways, they’re just our ways.  We’re always looking to improve, learn from, experiment, and grow as leaders.  You’re going to have something we lack, gifts we need, and a passion that will help make others better. Thank you in advance for helping make us better, even as we develop you for a life of ministry!

Faith Church

Faith Church is a multisite church of thousands in Northwest Indiana and about 30 miles from downtown Chicago. They are looking for pastoral residents who will be embedded with the campus pastors. Expected Work Hours:
20 - 25 (negotiable).
Expected Monthly Pay: $1360 - $1700 (depending on hours worked)

What are your greatest hopes and dreams for the next couple of years for your church?
Faith Church is currently one church with five locations: four in Northwest Indiana and one in the South Suburbs of Chicago. We believe God has planted us in this place to impact a diverse region located 30-45 minutes from downtown Chicago depending on which of the Faith Church campuses a person would be traveling from. To that end, our hope is that more people in our region come to know Christ their Lord and Savior, that they develop Christian disciplines that help them grow in their walk with Christ and understand their calling for serving Him. Our hope is that God will further position Faith Church to have an influence on those things, and we pray that He opens new opportunities for His church to plant new sites or enfold others. We believe that if something is alive, like his church, it should be multiplying. And we utilize our 4Gs to build and measure our ministry efforts, including programs and processes. Those are Gather, Grow, Give and Go. We value gathering as a large group and in small groups. We believe all Christians should be growing in their walk with the Lord no matter how long they’ve been in a relationship with Him. We also teach the idea of giving of our time, talents and treasures as an act of worshipping our Lord. Finally, we believe all of these things to help guide and equip the believer to adhere to and carry out the Great Commandment and Great Commission. We are committed as a church to co-laboring with Christ to transform the world for His name, one relationship at a time.

Why did you choose to do a residency & what are you hopeful will happen through this process? We are hopeful that a strong residency program will help us fill our leadership pipeline. Additionally, we anticipate that residents will help us broaden our perspectives for ministry and expand our capacity to communicate the Gospel, possibly in new ways we've never tried or by someday leading a new church site for Faith Church.

What is it like to work on staff there? The staff at Faith Church numbers between 90-100 very talented and creative people. The team collaborates well, despite being in six different locations. Each Wednesday most employees gather at one of our locations for team meetings, planning, staff chapels and meetings, etc., which builds strong camaraderie.

Does your church’s website state the mission, vision, values and key distinctives of your church? Please paste the link: https://wearefaith.org/what-we-believe/

Please describe the current staff structure. Being that we are one church with five locations, we have one senior pastor and five campus pastors. Our executive team has four members: senior pastor, executive pastor, executive director of operations, and executive director of communication. And our church is governed by a consistory (or board) made up of elders and deacons. Finally, each of our campuses has a group of community care elders and deacons to focus on the needs of each locality. In addition, our staff is positioned to carry out our ministry and administrative work in two ways: through shared Central Services and locally at each campus. This means that such things as general operations, finance, marketing communication, human resources, building maintenance, leadership development, and few other things are administered in a way that the entire church (all campuses) benefit. Likewise, each campus pastor leads their local staff to carry out the mission of the church at each locality.

What qualities does it take to “win” on staff at your church? Our church is pretty entrepreneurial, meaning we like to try new things. At the same time, we govern ourselves by Biblical truths and values. The staff is creative, collaborative, caring, hard-working and fun-loving. None of us is perfect. We always say that "we strive for excellence, not perfection," because we want to fully do the best we can for our Lord Jesus Christ. We also count on people to use their giftedness to contribute, and we care deeply about people's ongoing spiritual and professional development. To "win" on staff at Faith Church it takes the traits listed above, a willingness to contribute and collaborate using your gifts and talents God has given you, and to always be open to learning and trying new things.

Who will the resident report to? Will there be a different person acting as coach?

The resident will report to a pastor at one of our five locations. They also will work closely with the Director of Leadership Development, who will serve as a coach and guide in many cases. However, the resident will have numerous interactions with other pastors and staff along the way, so it's certain that many people will have "coaching words" of encouragement. But the learning should be rich since we have many campuses and many ministries.

Are there particular assessment tools that you prefer when exploring potential staff people?
Every staff member at Faith Church participates in the Kolbe-A Personality Profile, which is administered upon hiring. We do not utilize assessment tools as part of the interview process, however we’d welcome candidates including their DISC or StrengthsFinders summaries as part of their application. This would be a value-add and certainly is not a requirement for applying.

Are you affiliated with a particular denomination or tribes/association of churches? If so, what websites could one investigate to gain further understanding? Faith Church is a Christ-focused, Bible-believing Reformed church and a member of the Kingdom Network (https://kingdomnetworkusa.org/), which is a multiplying movement of like-minded churches committed to making disciples, raising up a new generation of leaders and starting new churches. Additionally we are aligned together with other like-minded churches outside the Kingdom Network in what is called the New Thing Network (www.newthing.org).

What are the key doctrinal and theological issues where alignment is essential?

From our website: https://wearefaith.org/what-we-believe/

What is your average weekend attendance? We average approximately 3,500 people (adults and kids) in attendance each week, which is the sum of attendance at all our campuses.

In general, what is your church demographic? Considering NW Indiana and the Chicago Southland, we are located in a fairly diverse part of the country. However right now our primary church demographic is middle class and primarily Caucasian because of the physical locations of our campuses. A couple of our campuses have more racial diversity than others, because of where they are located. However, we want to become more diverse and it is our full intention and goal to become more represented by all races. After all, our region is becoming more diverse each year that passes. Faith Church was planted in 1963 as a Dutch reformed church in South Holland, IL, and we are a multigenerational church where we still have founding members of Faith Church as part of our flock, in addition to their children and grandchildren.

However that demographic now makes up only one-third of our congregation because since moving to Dyer, IN in 2002 we have attracted numerous people from a variety of church and unchurched backgrounds. Praise God!!

Is there more than one site or venue? If so, please describe. Please see above for an understanding of our sites.

How many conversions has your church had in the past 12 months? (however you define this and whatever you count)
We had 102 public professions of faith in 2021.

What percentage of people are involved in a small group? A 2019 survey determined that about one-third of Faith Church members and attendees were participating in groups. Our strategic plan and the tactics developed to support it are focused on raising that to more than 50 percent within three years.

What is your church known for in the community?
Faith Church is known as being a good neighbor, who cares very deeply about The Great Commandment and The Great Commission. We are very active in the communities we serve, so we count ourselves as being called to serve in those municipalities. In fact, our strategic plan also is focused on increasing even more the numbers of Faith Church people “serving outside the walls of church.” We are also known as being very invitational, where people are encouraged to explore who we are and what we believe. That means that we are known as being a very friendly and welcoming church, which bodes well for our multi-site strategy.

What are the expected work hours and what does a typical work week look like for this resident?
Depending on the candidate this can be somewhat flexible except for two days in particular: Sundays and Wednesdays. We would expect our residents to work some hours on Sundays since that is when they will be able to meet the most people. Wednesdays are held for staff meetings at our Dyer, IN campus, including the Campus Pastors meeting. We will be somewhat flexible on other hours during the week depending on whether or not a resident has another work schedule outside of Faith Church. Also, we may need residents to be a bit flexible, too, depending upon the work they’ll be doing and meetings they may need to attend in order to complete that work (i.e. campus staff meetings, committee/team meetings, etc.)

What else would you say to a resident considering joining your team? Faith Church is a loving place for worshipping, working, volunteering, and learning. The church has extensive experience with starting and growing ministries, planting and enfolding churches, and guiding and supporting other congregations looking to learn from our experiences throughout the years. We are highly networked with numerous congregations outside of Faith Church as well as various local, national and international ministry organizations, and we count it as a blessing to learn from our friends as we strive to help them to become better, too. We believe that “we’re better together,” and we consistently strive to align our work with God’s Will for Faith Church. Finally, we’re looking for residents who feel called into multi-site ministry, are gifted collaborators, and believe they have giftedness in leadership, pastoring and teaching/preaching.

What is it like to work on staff there? Working at StoneBridge is fun and fast-paced.We love to try new ideas, but also are able to evaluate well. If something doesn’t work, we’ll try something new.

Waters Edge Church

The Water’s edge is a dynamic and growing church in the suburbs of Omaha, Nebraska. Their mission is to lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and each other. This a great opportunity to learn student ministry.

APPLY HERE
Here are some Q & A with their staff:

What are your greatest hopes and dreams for the next couple of years for your organization?
Water Edge (WE) are in the process of building a 15,000sf addition to our facility. This addition will give us 60% more space to our facility enabling us to better provide WE Kids and WE Youth ministry opportunities during the week, expand our capacity for worship options during the weekend, and enable us to better serve many of the schools, community groups, outreach ministries, and para-church ministries we have partnered with over the last 15 years. It is our hope this addition will help us to provide a fun, safe place where our youth, adult small groups, and others can gather and grow in their relationships with Jesus Christ and with each other.

WE are more than a building. Since WE moved into our facility, our impact with local schools has expanded. We currently sit in the middle of three large school districts and draw families who have children in or that will feed into 10 different high schools. Our hope is to continue to expand our reach and impact into the school districts within our immediate area and be a blessing to their students, staff, administrations, and the families within our community.

And WE want to be more than our local community. WE strive to have both an outreach and missional impact in the Omaha Metro Area, across our nation, and internationally. One dream we have is to be able to say we have mission impact that expands to every (inhabited) continent in the world. WE currently send people on mission trips here in the U.S.A., Belize, and Africa, and WE support missionaries in Nicaragua and the U.S.A. WE hope to grow and impact our missional reach in the coming years to include Europe, Asia, and Australia.

Why did you choose to do a residency & what are you hoping will happen through this process?
Our Mission Vision and Values express our desire to be a church that is continually expanding and growing God’s kingdom. WE believe that extends not just to our congregation, but also to the development of those who will be the next generation of church leaders. WE feel that adding a resident to our Youth Ministry team will be an opportunity to develop a new leader and hopefully be a springboard that sets the stage for additional residencies and ministry development in the future.

What is it like to work on staff there? The ministry staff here is very collaborative. Regardless of one’s job description, there is generally great communication and involvement across the board in our ministry functions. In many ways, while everyone has specific job descriptions, we also assist whenever possible in other areas of ministry. Our ministry staff are long serving (averaging over 10 years on staff), fun, lighthearted, supportive, and caring people who look out for and care deeply about one another.

Does your church’s website state the mission, vision, values and key distinctives of your church? Please paste the link:

What qualities does it take to “win” on staff at your church? Those who take initiative in both learning and doing, tend to have the most success, gain the respect of our congregation, and get the most out of their experience. You must be a team player and willing to “lend a hand” wherever the need is. We are a team. At times, events, and activities, ministry opportunities are ALL HANDS ON DECK. If you want to win over the staff, be a team player.

Here are some Q & A with the Executive Pastor Roger Graber.

What are your greatest hopes and dreams for the next couple of years for your organization?
That everyone that attends feels the responsibility of being the church and reaching the world with the Gospel. That they realize they are the evangelists and teachers and leaders.

Why did you choose to do a residency & what are you hoping will happen through this process?
We have a culture here of inviting young/rookie leaders onto the team and giving them a legit seat at the table. So if we can help train hireable ministry workers, even if they go elsewhere that is a win.

What is it like to work on staff there?
We have fun. If you don’t like to laugh with your team and laugh at yourself then you will definitely not like being on this team! Our staff is given a lot of freedom when it comes to the hours they work, where they work, the ability to try new things.  It is a fun environment.  There is structure, but I don’t think it is confining in any way.

Does your church’s website state the mission, vision, values and key distinctives of your church? Please paste the link: Yes you can check them out HERE

What qualities does it take to “win” on staff at your church?
Did I mention we like to have fun? Ha. Also, we have 4 staff values that we expect from everyone. Passion - is signified by whole-hearted engagement, showing up on time or early, and being a self-starter.
Serve - signified by filling the gaps, doing more than the job description, and caring for others.
Better - be a continual learner.
Together - signified by being open-handed with your resources, and caring for each other.

Who will the resident report to?  Will there be a different person acting as coach?
They’ll report to their staff leader and I (Roger) will be the coach.

Are you affiliated with a particular denomination or tribes/association of churches? If so, what websites could one investigate to gain further understanding?
No we are a non-denominational church.

What are the key doctrinal and theological issues where alignment is essential?
You can check out those things at this link

Everyone on our team would need to align with those things.

What is your average weekend attendance?
Approximately 700 folks plus online.

In general, what is your church demographic?
Lots of families. Lots of kids.

What is your church known for in the community?
A friendly, welcoming and accepting environment.  Very active serving in the community.

How much are you planning on financially compensating your resident?  Is it set or is it flexible?
It’s flexible.

What are the expected work hours and what does a typical workweek look like for this resident?
All of our meetings are on Mondays and Tuesdays.  Some of those meetings would be very important for the resident to attend.  Of course, it would be important to be there on Sundays.

Lots of freedom to get your work done all the other times of the week. We focus more on results than on when/how many.

What else would you say to a resident considering joining your team?
This is our first time doing this, so it is possible that we could suck at this.  It could go incredibly well… I can almost guarantee you will have fun. :)
