Candidate FAQs

Here are the most frequent questions we get from potential residents:

Why residency?

Because future employers tell us that a two-year experience on a church staff that is advancing is the best way to be ready for full-time ministry employment.

Will I have a mentor or a coach?

We are so glad you asked! We get asked this all the time and our answer is a resounding YES! Our program is grounded in developmental conversations delivered through coaching and mentorship.

What will this cost me?

It will cost you nothing to apply. You will be paid a little bit during residency. This varies from church to church.

How does this compare to other residencies I’m where I’m applying?

In a word…intentionality around your professional development. We began Lp six years ago out of a need for more and better-prepared leaders to serve in the local church. Our only goal is for you to be placed somewhere full-time in ministry once this residency is completed.

Who is residency for exactly?

We are always looking for 20+ years of age candidates who have decided to pursue full-time ministry. We have residents who are college dropouts all the way up to advance degrees.

What are the age requirements to apply for residency?

Minimum of one year out of high school.

Will I be paid?

Yes! It’s up to the individual church, but all of Lp’s opportunities are paid roles. They are typically not enough to live on, so most churches will provide housing similarly to a foreign exchange student.  So housing is covered and there’s typically some extra cash on the side.

What will I be learning?

You’ll be learning soft skills and best practices to be highly desirable on a ministry team.

Am I guaranteed a full-time job when the residency is over?

No. But it is common for this to happen. The entire point of an Lp residency is to ensure that you are hirable and highly desired in a local church. Our only win is helping you win in this way.

Will I earn a degree through Lp?

No, but many of our residents are working on higher education degrees online or in a classroom in combination with residency.

Can I do this and go to school?

Absolutely.

What are the hours?

These are different from church to church, but the majority of our residents will “feel like” they are full-time. You’ll be matched to a ministry leader (youth pastor, kids pastor, tech director, worship leader, etc.) and when they are working you’ll probably be working.

How long does a residency last?

Two years. We don’t engage in any that aren’t two years. We believe it takes this long to be ready.
